Hello! My name is Erica. I’m a mom in my 40’s and have two amazing daughters. I have been responsible for creating my own income through self-employment since 2007. As a result of that, I like to think I have learned to be very resourceful in making and saving money and have learned a lot in the process. I’m here to share that information with you.

Why I Do What I Do
My most important role in life is that of being a mom to my two daughters. It has always been my goal to show them that women can do anything they set their minds to and that there should be no limitations. I want my daughters to experience growing up around strong women and their biggest example of that must be me.

About My Kids
I will mention my kids frequently, so I will give you a little bit of background here so that you can understand better.
My oldest daughter is brilliantly neurodivergent and was diagnosed with autism at age three. I have long been convinced that she can follow any career path she chooses and be amazingly successful at it. She is extremely intelligent, quirky, kind, funny, and has an amazing heart for helping and saving animals. She struggles with social interactions and sensory issues as a result of her autism. She and I volunteer at our local SPCA together and being there is her self-proclaimed happy place.
My youngest daughter came to us by way of adoption through foster care when she was an infant. She is smart, extroverted, creative, naturally funny, and empathetic towards others. She has experienced many struggles already, but it has only made her stronger. She is incredibly resilient! She is an amazing dancer and has impressed us with her dance moves ever since she could walk. Â
We also have an assortment of fur babies, who all came from animal shelters. We all have a very big heart for animals.Â

Why I’m Here for You
I have had many careers and job titles since embarking on self-employment in 2007. I have successfully worked as a writer, booking agent for speakers, online business consultant, business manager, sales and marketing expert, and recruiter. I have experimented with my own writing business, sold jewelry on eBay, and have been an Amazon seller. I have worked for some extremely interesting people, including a  retired NBA star, a millionaire, and a best-selling author/humanitarian. I once even virtually helped a client organize and set a Guinness Book World Record. Work for me has been quite interesting and oftentimes fun!
I have had many successes and quite a few failures as well. I’ve had amazing financial years, but there have also been times when I have questioned my career decisions entirely because money was tight. I saw my business go from thriving to barely existent during the Great Recession of 2008 and again at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. From all of it I have learned a great deal. I know how to survive and how to thrive. I have learned how to be very resourceful along the way. I can make money from almost nothing and I can always take care of myself and my kids.

Strong Women
A strong woman stands up for what she believes in. She is not afraid to use her voice. She is self-sufficient and financially independent. A strong woman knows how to take care of herself and her children. While she may choose to have a man in her life, she does not need one. A strong woman sets herself up to have choices so that she never has to settle for less. Strong women hold other women up and never push them down.
Â
Why Broke Ass Mom?
I started Broke Ass Mom to pass along my financial knowledge and business experience to other women to help them be stronger and make sure they can thrive just like I have. Women must all stick together!
